Our Own Heart Hero

Wes is a not-so-typical 7 year old boy in our first grade. He has overcome many challenges, including his diagnosis of Idiopathic Ventricular Tachycardia at the age of 15 months. Over the years, he has been through many tests and happily today is doing MUCH better. He still sees his cardiologist regularly for check-ups, but he is very active and LOVES to play baseball, ride his bike, and go on all the rides at Disney World. This year during our annual Kids Heart Challenge, Wes decided to go the extra mile. He took his love of cooking and baking and turned it into donations. With his bake sale, he was able to raise over $1000 for the American Heart Association. Way to go Wes!!
BETA Club Gives Back

This year, our Elementary BETA Club adopted the 4th and 5th grades at The Shepherd's School in Pahokee. They used snack shack proceeds to purchase two classroom sets of books and materials for hands-on math games. Next, they are planning a used book drive to help with their classroom libraries. Thank you BETA Club!
Whirled Peace

The Pinwheels for Peace initiative takes place every year on September 21st, the International Day of Peace. This initiative strives to make a visual, public statement about peace. Each of our students designed a pinwheel that was then placed on our front lawn. The bonus of a windy day really helped our pinwheel display to shine. Prayers were said for peace and our chapel service featured speakers from each grade level sharing original essays on what peace means to them. We used the International Day of Peace to kick off our International Week celebration. Students learned about their own heritage and about different cultures around the world.
We've Gone to the Dogs

We were recently blessed with a visit from two very special canines. Kermit the Dog and Fozzie Bear are both service dogs working here in Palm Beach County. These "Gentle Giants" are Newfoundlands and we were able to learn the many special qualities that are characteristic of their breed - did you know they are powerful swimmers? In addition to being personal service dogs, these two participate in the Dog Tales reading program at the Mandel Public Library in West Palm Beach. We learned all about the importance of reading and how we might become authors ourselves one day. We are hoping to have Kermit and Fozzie back to school very soon.
